[AL-02] Bright Voted For Huckabee!

Alabama Democrat Bobby Bright, a three term mayor of Montgomery, is running for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District seat. Bright's campaign has an interesting article up on their website that mentions his support of former Arkansas Governor and one time Presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee.

"The 2nd Congressional District’s Democratic nominee for Congress said Monday that close party ties are a thing of the past, adding that he voted for Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee in the Republican primary earlier this year.

Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright officially opened his Dothan campaign headquarters Monday and said his support of Huckabee shows his support of person over party.

“He is a very smart man and I know what his beliefs are,” Bright said Monday morning. “He’s a Southern Baptist minister and I’ve been a Southern Baptist deacon for 14 years."

Huckabee, a baptist minister, won Georgia in the GOP primary last Feburary. Huckabee's mix of social conservatism with his populist economic message did not win him the GOP Presidential nomination, but, as a Conservative Democrat, I can say with certainty that Huckabee is a candidate that can easily pick up support from center-right Democrats in the future.

The district is on the AL-GA border and is currently held by Republican Terry Everett. Everett is chose to retire, leaving the seat open. Republican Jay Love is Bright's opponent.

[GA-08] Marshall picks up GOP-leaning PAC endorsement

According to TheHill: "The Business Industry Political Action Committee, which endorses candidates from both parties but leans toward Republicans, announced the six Democratic endorsements alongside three Republicans."

CQPolitics:
Gregory S. Casey, president and chief executive officer of BIPAC, said in a statement that the nine endorsees “might not always agree with us, but they are willing to work with us to find common solutions to everyday American economic challenges. With the key issues before us now, we need their voices at the table.”

Also, in the same article, CQPolitics says the following about GA-08:

"
Marshall, who represents a Republican-leaning district in central and south-central Georgia, is one of the most conservative Democrats in the House. He narrowly escaped defeat in his 2006 re-election contest, but is a slight favorite this year against Republican nominee Rick Goddard, a retired Air Force major general. CQ Politics rating: Leans Democratic".

The article also mentions that BIPAC added Alabama Democrat, Bobby Bright, the three-term Mayor of Montgomery who is for AL02's open seat, as well as Georgia's own John Barrow.

2010 Gubernatorial Endorsements (Republicans)

We're still two years away from voting for Georgia's next Governor, however that has not stopped four-term Insurance Commissioner, John Oxendine from announcing his intentions to run for Governor. Current Lt. Governor and former State Senator, Casey Cagle, has announced his intention to start an "exploratory committee".

Anyway, I'll be using this thread to keep a list of endorsements on the Republican side.

2010 Gubernatorial Endorsements (Democrats)

We're still two years away from voting for Georgia's next Governor, however, that has not stopped candidates from announcing their intentions to run. Former Labor Commissioner/Secretary of State/Adjutant General, David Poythress from announcing his bid for the 2010 contest.

Other names such as State Senator Tim Golden have been mentioned, though as of 9/14/08 no other Democrats have announced.

Anyway, I'll be using this thread to keep a list of endorsements on the Democratic side.

Georgia CD-8 Ads

Georgia's 8th District Congressman, Conservative Democrat Jim Marshall has hit the airwaves with the following ad:

His opponent, Republican Rick Goddard, has launched his own ad:

Congressman Marshall is the type of bi-partisan leader we need in Washington. Before the GOP-led redistricting a couple of years ago, Congressman Marshall represented my county, and his dedication to our community and his willingness to hear our concerns was amazing. In Congress he votes his district, not his party, and he deserves to be sent back to Washington.

Welcome

Hello,

Welcome to my blog. My name is RuralDem and I am a Conservative Democrat residing in a small county in middle Georgia. Yes, I said I am a "Conservative Democrat". I tend to hold center-right views on the hot-button social issues that we hear about so often, while holding centrist views on the fiscal side of things. I plan on blogging at least once a day, though, as a college student, my studies obviously come first.

This blog will focus mainly on Georgia politics, whether it be local, state, or federal races. However, from time to time I plan on blogging about other races of interest around the country.

If you'd like to contribute, either by posting an entry, or even providing a valuable rumor or tip, please send me an email at ruraldem@gmail.com.
